Pelosi Demands POTUS Dip Into Strategic Petroleum Reserve In Order To Save Her Ass »
Posted By pc25 3 months ago in Newsin April 2006 she was blaming that darn Republican congress for these high prices: With skyrocketing gas prices, it is clear that the American people can no longer afford the Republican Rubber Stamp Congress and its failure to stand up to Republican big oil and gas company cronies.

"House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today released the following statement on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-CA) call for President Bush to release supplies from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve:
"With her call for President Bush to release supplies from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, the Speaker is admitting yet again that increasing the supply of oil will help reduce the price of gasoline."

and another perspective on this
http://danleereport.com/2008/07/09/democrats-bl...
Democrats block energy bills, & try to force Bush to tamper with strategic oil reserves.
Well that's genius.. Nancy Pelosi apparently doesn't understand what "strategic" means, because she's pressuring Bush to weaken our defensive readiness by releasing strategic oil reserves to the public to help lower prices.
This of course plays right into the result Democrats long for, & that is the destruction of the United States as the most powerful & sovereign nation on earth.
these people can not be trusted to have the competency to to handle the safety and security of this country in a time of war or any time for that that matter......... we are talking about the security of the United States......what doesn't she, Obama, Reid, Kennedy and all understand

--Remind us which party had to be dragged kicking and screaming to begin implementing the 9/11 Panel's recommendations? Nevermind...It was REPUBLICANS. And Bush has caused terrorism to EXPLODE all over the world. The world is FAR less safe than when he got into office. FAR less.

Nancy's solution is to dip into the reserves for what purpose? We need to develop more supplies of oil. Drill now, had the Dems and Clinton permitted us to drill 10 year ago, we'd have our own local supply. You really want to mess with Opec, build plants that convert coal into a crude like slurry and process this just like they do oil. It can be done for anywhere from $35 to $50/barrel and it would be 100% American. American coal, mined by American labor, using American built equipment, with the taxes and profits staying right here. Well, we don't have to worry about the Dems supporting this. It makes too much sense. This can be done with existing technology at a minimal expense when compared to the ethanol scam, wind power scam or solar fantasies.
Great paying jobs that will make America safer, of course the Dems wouldn't support it.

"Nancy's solution is to dip into the reserves for what purpose? We need to develop more supplies of oil."
--Urmm...Maybe to do something that will lower the price (even if only by a dime or so) tomorrow, maybe? Make the oil companies drill on the millions of acres of land they're not drilling on now. Try that and then we can talk about giving them rights to dig up the planet elsewhere.
"Drill now, had the Dems and Clinton permitted us to drill 10 year ago, we'd have our own local supply."
--But the same could be said of generously investing in alternative fuel technologies decades ago. That doesn't mean that was or is the only thing that could have prevented the situation we have today? Have you ever taken a course in reasoning in logic? I highly recommend it.

Garbage. Drilling an ANWR and coastal areas would add less than 1/10th of 1% to the international oil supply and supply less than 4% of the US's needs if we somehow kept it to ourselves instead of placing it on the international market.
How much impact on the price of oil do you think an increase of 1/10th of 1% in production is going to have versus how much environmental damage will be done.

The only solution to bringing down the price of any product is to increase supply. 62% of Americans want to begin Domestic Drilling as soon as possible That will not happen if we re elect Democrats in the House, and Senate, and certainly not if we elect a President who says, Quote, "I knew gas prices was going up, I just didn't expect them to rise so quickly." Looks like he knew they were going up, and he knew why. What he has no intention of doing is bringing the price down.

with the stances that Reid and Pelosi have taken against off shore drilling, new drilling of any kind, investing in oil shale technology, and that the problem in not supply but speculation the demand that this country tap into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve is a tacit admission that the increased supply of petroleum will reduce the cost of energy to the American consumer..........as usual the Democrats find themselves on the wrong side of an issue as they have been on every other issue these past several years..........

--Uhh...How can they *admit* something they've never denied? Pelosi and Reid have said what even those with basic intelligence have been saying for months--that oil we can't count on hitting the market for at least a decade isn't going to discourage oil producers from charging a premium *today* (ask yourself what *you* would do) and with population growth (and the fact that we're using a quarter of the world's oil), it's not likely to reduce the price by more than a penny or so per gallon. Intelligent Americans know this.

--This statement is patently false and if you were informed, you'd know that it's been precisely the reverse (Katrina, Iraq, SCHIP, GI Bill, Schiavo, and on and on).

The 62% poll was from Gallop, and I said before, Senator McCain was not my first choice, but running against a former Muslim who spent 20 years listening to a racist Pastor curse, and damn this great country, a man whose friends are Domestic Bombers, and Terrorist sympathizers, who has to have two press conferences in one day to explain his stand on Iraq, and who thinks, quote, "We cannot drive our SUVs, eat as much as we want, and turn our thermostats down to 72 degrees and expect people in other countries say O K." unquote, running against that person, John McCain is a genius, a real hero, a wise older person, and the next President of the U S

"Even with a 9% approval rating Pelosi still thumbs her nose at the people and what they need and want. "
--Thumbing your nose at what the people want is trying to shove a lame ass Social Security "reform" proposal down America's throat while a thousand people drown during a hurricane. Thumbing your nose is vetoing stem cell research funding and voting against the will of the American people on SCHIP. Congress has a 9% approval rating because the GOP has obstructed America's will with a record number of filibusters since the Democrats took over. Americans aren't stupid enough to believe that with two oil barons in the White House and Cheney's secret meetings with Big Oil, the Democrats are responsible for jacking up oil prices or standing in the way of progress. Just because the GOP keeps insisting that drilling is the number one answer doesn't mean the majority of America is falling for their usual BS blame-shifting and dodging. Get real...

I assume the drowning people you referred to were from N O, Right? Did you notice the difference in the way the N O people handled their plight, and the people flooded out in the entire Midwest? Every poor, and unfortunate in N O had a cigarette hanging out of their mouths, or a pack of cigs in a pocket, or rolled in their t-shirt sleeve. They had cigarettes even when their babies had no food. There is nothing the Government could do to help people that unable to help themselves.

"This Congress has failed to lead at every turn, and has generated very few successes. They purposefully turn the conversation away from progress to rehash old topics. They are not serving the people, and we need to make them aware of this."
--And please highlight all the various ways in which the GOP Congress (which held control for 6 years) was better and remind us what their accomplishments were. Thanks.

The GOP Congress was not better. But you should not try to prove a negative; it's not logical.
A 9% approval rating is a record low. The people are not being served, the vowed reforms are not taking place and there is little or no progress.
Vetoing stem cell research is a legitimate power of the Executive Branch. Don't like it; change it.
I was for Social Security reform. I have yet to see a plan from Congress... Still waiting.
It was a shame that the local leadership in New Orleans failed to do their jobs. They had to travel 2 miles to work, the Feds had to mobilize thousands of people within days. Nagin and Landreau were right there, and failed. I'm from LA, and I lived it.

USA imported 24% of her oil in 1970
40% in 1990
70% today
So even if all that everyone wants to drill got to the refineries tomorrow, you would cut down what 10% ?
Trouble is it will take 10 years, and by that time you will be importing 80% and so you will still be where you are today.
And 20 of the last 28 years you have had a Rep as Pres,2 of them oil men from Texas along with a Rep congress in many of those years, so quit blaming it all on Dems, hell even your Mex border has not been addressed, and that is with Texans at the helm.
Both parties have been bought and paid for, only too many people stick to party dogma rather than face facts.

Can't think of a thing to say, other than to tell Pelosi to "shut up." She's already made it clear that she's all talk and no action. Bush is going to do what he damn well pleases, and she knows it. I for one am not impressed with her telling anyone anything.

Why not move cities, counties, utilities, post office delivery equipment, school buses to use Natural gas to power their vehicles.
Atlanta's metro buses use it; most cab companies could use it.
Take those pressures off gasoline, then drill where there is oil and move it to market quickly.
Continue with wind and solar additions ... we could be virtually independant of the middle east in 3-4 years.
Forget ethanol until we perfect it.
