In the book "China 2030", there is a discussion about how China's economic growth is tied to resource acquisition. China has been building African infrastructure for a few years - I've posted about it before on Propeller.
This is a big deal for the future of Western nations. There will be an economic battle, and China intends to win it. All of our petty squabbles about whether to drill, where to drill, what kind of energy do we pursue, could easily become moot in two decades or less.

I posted a story today about Russia. They have also landed a big natural gas deal with Libya and Nigeria. As the thirst from these countries get greater their influence has to increase. Africans don't realize what a great resource they are sitting on. I wonder if they will wake up in time to realize they have been "shaken down" by countries who's sole interest is their resources.

"Tough crap "west", you just lost the race....."
A little pre-mature, don't ya think?
Maybe I am reading you wrong, but you seem to revel in that comment? If so, you better think long and hard about what a Chineese led world would look like.
You like the government in TOTAL CONTROLL of the media?
You like a government that rolls over ITS OWN STUDENTS with TANKS?
Youl like a government the pollutes ITS OWN land so badly a thick haze you could cut with a knife hangs over it? Can you imagine how little regard it would have for YOUR land?

30% of China's oil comes from Africa, and that is the tip of the iceberg.
While the USA thinks that building military bases is foreign aid, the Chinese are building hospitals, schools and such which many Africans seem to respond favourably to.
And spin; DM is more of a supporter of McC than Obama, so yes I think you read him wrong.
He also offers a non Rep/Dem point of view, which is always welcome as there are many ways to view a fence, on both sides

one more point..
In all honesty there IS enough room in the world for China and the West to live side by side, the ones that have to worry are all the rest caught in the middle.
Frankly, if I were the Russians I would be worried right now. They are playing nicey nice at the moment with each other, but sooner or later their proximity to one another is going to lead to conflict.....at which time one or the other will gladly look to the West for a sympathetic ear. Book it.

NSD - Check the name...... Rough translation, it's latin for Most Cynical.... No I do NOT "revel" in that viewpoint, but am simply sickened by our "political master's" inability to see or act on it !!!
As for China, if you look at some of my other posts connected to that country, you'll find my feelings quite adequately expressed !!!

And your point is? Two people with basically the same ideas cant disagree from time to time? Where in my comment did I make this a Dem/Rep issue exactly?

You missed my point, being a non American he has a third party view, a different slant; that is all.
And if you are not open to other views, you are a dinosaur.

I'll belive that when I see it.
You will defend the Gov. on their decision of bailing out Freddie Mac, or GM as that is free market, yeah right !
But for the Gov. to help those who need it, oh no that is socialism.

Good grief...
AGAIN, PLEASE...PLEASE....show me where I have EVER defended the government for bailing out either? SHOW ME WHERE I SAID THAT!! You know, its kind of hard to discuss anything with you considering your idea of debate is putting words into my mouth and then condemning me for them..lol?!?!
If you are going to try and make issue of my views and opinions, CAN YOU PLEASE STICK TO ONES I HAVE ACTUALLY verbalized? Please. Thanks.

Excellent article, bigurn. Informative and thought provoking. I must admit that I don't pay enough attention to the situation in Africa. Thanks for posting and sending.
